Manchester space at the G8

The Van Plan. How we get there and what we plan to do before we go. Our plan is simple. Book some vans for the first and second weeks of July. Meet on the 19 of June to do some direct action training and organise when the vans will leave and return, as not
everyone will be able to stay the full week. Set up a group to organise the kitchen and marquee that were going to take and maybe have one other meeting to further discuss things we might do in Scotland.

A home in the country!

Where we shall stay:
There will be a large rural convergence space where many of the people going to the G8 protests from the UK and Europe will be staying. Manchester mobilising against the G8 will set up it's marquee and kitchen here (the where of which is as yet unknown). There will be no accommodation in the marquee so people will have to bring their own tents. The marquee will be a meeting space, a place of rest and recuperation, a canteen and a base camp for our time in Scotland. Hopefully this will provide a space and a time in which people who haven't done this kind of thing before can find their feet in a supportive and welcoming atmosphere.

Other cities such as Leeds will be doing the same and the convergence space will be made up of a series of self managed neighbourhoods. Who knows: if we can break ourselves away from the endless feasting and silk pillows we might even do some decent direct action.

Direct Action at Glen Eagles
Some actions are already planned (Theres a list on this wall) so we'll all have to decide which ones we join in with. We may want to do something as a large group or all go off on our own adventures, perhaps meeting in the evening to exchange experiences and recoup before the next day. Maybe the most important actions havn't yet been planned - because they require the kind of knowledge that we can only get when we're there.

The advantage of being without hierarchies is that any of us can come up with ideas and plans for action at any time....this keeps us on our toes -and the G8 gaurds guessing...expect some chaos, frustration and times of great excitement. For larger actions maybe well have to send a 'delegate' to the planning meetings. There will be meetings, and meetings of meetings (but don't worry if you cant handle that---- you can probably avoid most of them). We aim to be flexible but decisive, and to act in a non-hierarchical, inclusive way. We want to have a good time, meet people, and put a spanner in the works of the G8, its at times like these that great things can happen... Hopefully we'll come back to Manchester tired but with some crazy tales to tell: stronger braver and more beautiful than when we left (okay maybe that's expecting to much but you get
the idea).

If you want to come with us please come to the meeting on Monday 20th June at 6pm at The Basement, 24 Lever Street, see here for more info
